How it Works
Every user needs an account
Who is a user?
A user is a doctor, an MOA, or anyone else who needs access to your sent and received referrals.
Every specialist needs a practice
What is a practice?
Each practice represents a single specialist – the specialist that the practice sends / receives referrals for. Every member of a practice can see all referrals sent / received by the practice. Practice members would include you (the specialist), your MOA(s), and anyone else who needs access to your referrals.
Specialists create their own referral categories
What are referral categories?
When you receive a referral, it will have a category (and possible subcategory). By categorizing referrals we ensure you have a balanced practice. For a category or subcategory, referrals are level loaded across the specialists in your group who receive referrals in this category / subcategory.
How are the referral categories determined?
If you are the first region of your specialty to join Clinnect, you send us your proposed set of referral categories for your specialty group. These categories are reviewed and verified by our medical liaisons. With you, we take a collaborative and iterative approach to determining the final categories. Check out these specialty categories for an example of the categories used by onboarded specialties.
If another group of specialists with your specialty have joined Clinnect in a different region, look through their categories. If there are additional categories you need, we will work with you to add these categories to Clinnect.
How do you send referrals?
Clinnect has a simple form you fill out to send a referral. Enter basic patient information, specialist information, select an urgency, and attach any additional files.
Confirm the information and hit send!
Choose a specific specialist or let Clinnect choose for you
What does this mean?
If you or your patient doesn’t have a preference of specialist, you can let Clinnect choose for you. This allows us to balance the number of referrals sent to specialists for that category / subcategory resulting in overall balanced practices for specialists. It also means one specialist will no longer receive all the referrals for a given category when the other specialists are equally capable of seeing a patient for that category.
How does Clinnect choose a specialist?
Clinnect selects a specialist from those who receive referrals in the chosen specialty, category, subcategory, and region. The current referral is sent to the specialist who has received the least number of referrals in that category / subcategory. By doing this with each referral, we are able to balance referrals across all the specialists who receive referrals in that category / subcategory for each region.
View your full sent referral history
What happens once you send a referral?
All your sent referrals are viewable on Clinnect. This allows you to track referrals – know exactly when they were sent, who they were sent by, and who they were sent to.
How do you receive referrals?
As soon as you create your practice, you can start receiving referrals. When someone creates a referral with your region, specialty, and a category / subcategory that you receive referrals in, they can direct a referral to you. Clinnect will also send you referrals when referring providers select “Choose for me” on the referral.
How do you see your received referrals?
All your received referrals are viewable on Clinnect. Select an individual referral to view all the referral fields and to download attached files.
Change the category or urgency and accept or decline referrals
What can you do with a received referral?
After reviewing any additional attachments, update the category and urgency of the referral to reflect the true urgency and category. Then choose to accept or decline the referral.
All changes are shown in the journey log to both you and the referring provider.

This ensures only legitimate specialists can receive referrals.
Is your specialist group onboarded with Clinnect?
The first step to receiving referrals through Clinnect is to onboard your specialty to the Clinnect application. Onboarding a specialty means that the specialist group has determined their referral categories and these categories have been added to the Clinnect application by our staff.
